Al's Restaurant in Plymouth Has Closed

A decades-old dining spot south of Boston that was known for its pizza-shaped building and mechanical chicken has closed its doors.

According to an article from Wicked Local, Al's Restaurant in Plymouth shut down over the weekend, with a Facebook post from the Water Street eatery saying that "we have had 45 years of happy memories, 45 years of serving our community, and 45 years of listening to that damn chicken machine....The time has come for us to move on to other adventures (including a well-earned retirement), but this one will always be our favorite." Al's, which first opened on the waterfront in 1973, featured pizza, sandwiches, pasta dishes, and more, with the structure it was housed in being shaped like a pizza slice while its "chicken machine" had a chicken start clucking, spinning around, and lay an egg with a prize inside for those who inserted 25 cents into the machine.

The address for this now-closed dining spot in Plymouth was: Al's Restaurant, 136 Water Street, Plymouth, MA, 02360.
