Cheese Masala Pav Recipe ~ Mumbai Street Style Food

Cheese Masala Pav is a delicious pav with a layer of bhaji on top, with melted cheese for a sinful treat anytime. This is one of the popular street foods of Mumbai.

In the pursuit of more street foods from Mumbai, I landed in cookingshooking channel and was taken in by the quick recipe. Toast the Pav with butter, layer with bhaji, and finally with grated cheese and then baked. This surely makes a delightful dish for kids who love cheese.

The melted cheese makes it a sinful dish to enjoy anytime. Kids enjoyed this so much that they got upset that I made so many dishes at the same time.

The Bhaji used for this dish is very simple with boiled potatoes, peas, and carrot for colour. It also has roasted paneer along with cheese spread on the toasted pav. This was more like a pizza on pav bread.

This is the final dish for the Don’t Be Cheesy Theme for the BM#117, week 4. In this series of Don’t Be Cheesy, I have Cheese Burst Pizza, Mumbai Street food style Cheese Pav Bhaji.

Xacuti Aloo Cheese Sandwich ~ A to Z Indian Breakfast Dishes

Xacuti Aloo Cheese Sandwich is a cheesy fusion sandwich made with potato spiced with Xacuti Masala sandwiched with cheese. This makes a quick and interesting breakfast dish.

When I came to X in the series of A to Z Indian Breakfast Dishes, I was thinking for quite some time wondering what I can make that will fit the X factor of the series. In the past, I have made different fusion dishes with the Xacuti Masala Powder that I have already made in two different types. The Xacuti Masala Powder and the Xacuti Curry Powder have been used to make different fusion dishes.

When I did the Flatbread theme I picked a paratha and a dosa to make Xacuti Potato Stuffed Paratha and Xacuti Potato Masala Dosa. For the Biryani and Quick Rice theme, I made Xacuti Paneer Coconut Biryani and Xacuti Masala Rice. Finally, for the A to Z Indian Pooris, it was Xacuti Aloo Stuffed Poori. So I wonder why I took such a long time to decide what to make for the Breakfast dish!

After concluding that a sandwich would be the best option, it was so easy to make the dish. I couldn’t get my regular setup and end up clicking on my kitchen counter!

I have frozen my Xacuti Masala Powder and it is still spicy. Konda loves spicy food and still felt the sandwiches were spicy. To make it more interesting, I included a cheese slice. You know right, Cheese makes everything alright!

We are ending this month’s edition this week and the series is going to come to an end next month!

Cheese Pav Bhaji | Mumbai Street Style Cheesy Pav Bhaji

Mumbai Street Style Cheese Pav Bhaji Recipe is a simple and tasty Pav Bhaji Recipe cooked the regular way and topped with a lot of cheese. The highlight is the topping of cheese and salted butter over the masala and cheese.

When I decided to make a street food platter from the streets of Mumbai and ended up making only varieties of Pav Bhaji. The other dishes were completely different and maybe that’s what made me end up making different Pav Bhajis that seem to be popular on the streets of Mumbai.

My basic Pav Bhaji recipe is very straightforward using store-bought Pav Bhaji masala with mashed vegetables. I have read and seen so many other ways of making the bhaji, including different vegetables plus or minus. I know the bhaji having beets seem to be the popular street food version. However, I knew it will be tough with my kids not liking beets.

What makes the Mumbai Street Style Cheese Pav Bhaji so delicious?

Well, let me share what actually makes this one so delicious! The salted butter and loads of cheese on top makes it out of the world! Out of the different versions sold on the menu, I shortlisted some of those recipes and this cheese pav bhaji is one of those that had Amul Salted Butter with loads of grated cheese on top.

On the day I planned to make this Mumbai Street Food menu, I also decided I would try some different bhaji recipes. So each of it was done slightly differently and it really made all the difference with the added change each recipe is supposed to have. I had shared a different Pav Bhaji recipe from the basic Pav Bhaji recipe I normally make.

Wheat Rava Dosa ~ A to Z Indian Breakfast Dishes

Wheat Rava Dosa is an instant crispy dosa. You only need 10 minutes to prepare the batter and another few minutes to make this instant Dosa. Make thin lacy, crispy dosa with the goodness of wheat and semolina together.

Dosas are a very popular and frequently made dish in most South Indian homes. We also have a huge list of dosas that we make at home. Some that we have experimented with inspiration, many of our own ideas. The batter varies from fermented to instant versions, where all you have to do is simply mix the ingredients and your batter is ready.

We always have the dosa batter stocked, it always comes in handy. When kids were younger, they used to love having Dosas more. These days they are interested in other dishes and Dosas has taken a backseat for them. However, the elders still continue having these dosas on the menu.

Planning for A to Z Indian Breakfast Dishes:

When I planning to finalize the list for the AtoZ Indian Breakfast Dishes, I wanted to make sure I included dishes from all states, meeting my alphabet requirement plus the fact that the recipe should be easy to make.

I almost didn’t want to include dosas as I already have a 101 Dosa Collection and would love to improve the list of Dosa Varieties as such. However, given the fact that W is a tough choice, I resorted to having dosa included as instant dosa with wheat flour is very easy.

I already have the basic wheat flour dosa which has always been my childhood favorite. Apart from that, I have a Wheat Flour Urad Dal Dosa or this Visiri Dosai which is a mix of all flours and is instant too. I wanted to include Rava and make it crispy like the Rava Dosa we make.

Coming to the Rava Dosa, yes our basic Rava Dosa works fine, apart from that we also have other instant dosas with Rava like the Instant Rava Dosa, Rava Onion Masala Dosa.

Some more collection for you to read and enjoy!

This collection of Breakfast dishes on C4AS Or this collection of Vegetarian Breakfast recipes from SYL

If you are interested in ideas on other Instant Dosas, Instant Dosas on SYL or Instant Dosas on C4AS

So I think I have covered all the different versions one might do with wheat flour. However, I remember seeing some more recipes noted down in my files. For now, enjoy this quick version that I had seen in one of those videos I happen to see. I served this crispy dosa with Vathal Chutney, which is a quick chutney with onions, dry red chilis.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Semolina / Rava
  • 1/4 cup Curds / Yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water or as required

Instructions

  • In a bowl, take the wheat flour, Rava, salt, and curds.
  • Start with one cup of water and mix well. There should not be any lumps.
  • Continue adding water to get the right pouring consistency.
  • To make sure your batter doesn't have curd lumps, you can mix or blend in a mixer.
  • There is no need to rest this batter and you can make the dosas right away.
  • Serve with a spicy chutney like the dry chili chutney I had served it with.

Notes

You can take all the ingredients directly into a mixer and blend the batter.
Don't let the batter rest for long as the dosas will end up becoming soggy.
As it stands for longer, the semolina will absorb water and the batter becomes thick.

Vegetable Masala Toast ~ A to Z Indian Breakfast Dishes

Vegetable Masala Toast is a spicy open toast from the Bangalore Iyengar Bakery Style. This toast has a spicy topping on a crisp toasted bread slice.

I don’t remember when I read about this online, however, looks like this Bangalore Iyengar Bakery is popular for all sorts of baked and other snacks that the whole internet is raving about them.

I haven’t personally tasted this open toast from the said bakery. However, going by the different sites that talk about this toast, it surely seems to be very popular. There are so many inspired dishes from this Bakery that it surely makes me want to visit that place sometime.

We haven’t been to Bangalore in recent times. We used to visit during my growing up years. Later when the city developed beyond recognition, we never went. The last time we visited, we had taken Konda with us, while the boys were with their grandparents. We were able to spend only two days and it wasn’t enough to go through the whole city.

This Vegetable Masala Toast is a crispy toast topped with spicy masala curry. The vegetable masala is very easy to make and this is an ideal breakfast to make when you are out of ideas on what to make.

We are doing BM#117, week 4 where I will be sharing my next three alphabets in the AtoZ Indian Breakfast dishes V, W, and X.
