Shirley to Open Brick-and-Mortar Space in Somervile's Davis Square, Replacing the Oat Shop

A pop-up in Somerville that focuses on farm-to-table options is moving to a permanent space in another part of the city, and it will replace a cafe that focuses on oatmeal.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Shirley is leaving Bow Market in Union Square at the end of July after being there less than a year in order to open a brick-and-mortar spot in Davis Square, taking over the space on College Avenue that is currently home to the Oat Shop. The post mentions that the new location of Shirley will offer baked goods (including breads), sandwiches, coffee, and "fun drinks" and it will offer vegetarian and vegan options while being 100% nut-free. If all goes as planned, expect to see a mid-August opening for the place.

The Oat Shop, which first opened a bit more than five years ago, plans to close down around the latter part of July, saying in an Instagram post that "We experienced various challenges over the past couple of years including rising costs. It's been an incredibly hard decision and with our lease ending, it feels like the right time to step away."

The address for the upcoming location of Shirley (and the Oat Shop) is 22A College Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02144. The Instagram page for Shirley can be found at https://ift.tt/TOeXhqV while the website for the Oat Shop is at https://ift.tt/1RHWcaT
