An iconic South Boston restaurant is closed for now, and it isn't known when it might open back up again.
According to a source, Amrheins in South Boston is shuttered, with a photo taken of a sign out front saying that "After much consideration we have decided to suspend business until further notice. Please continue to support the small businesses of your community buy gift cards, order take out, tip your delivery drivers. We look forward to serving you in the future." Assuming that Amrheins follows a similar path that countless other dining spots in the Boston area are taking as the pandemic continues, the restaurant could conceivably open back up later in the winter or in the spring--or whenever the atmosphere is more conducive to reopening based on factors such as vaccines, state and local restaurant restrictions, and any change in foot traffic.
Amrheins, which first opened its doors in 1890, is known in part for its hand-carved bar which is the oldest of its kind in the United States.
The address for Amrheins is 80 West Broadway, South Boston, MA, 02127. Its website is at https://ift.tt/2FFF7t2
