Aval Murukku | How to make Poha Chakli

Aval Murukku or Poha Chakli is savory rice based snack made with rice flour and beaten rice or the thick poha. These are Jar snacks that you can make ahead for kids and stock.

I have been wanting to make these aval murukku for a while, infact my murukku making is restricted to Deepavali along with Amma. Since Amma makes the best ones, I haven’t made any of these on my own. On top, I hardly ever get time to make these traditional snacks as my kids prefer cakes and chocolates for snacks.

We love murukkus and Amma’s traditional murukkus taste awesome. I always wanted to try my hand on my own to make these and this BM#104 Sweets & Snacks, surely gave me a chance to do everything on my own.

While there have been many dishes that Amma makes on her own and some I take her help, the Mega BMs are always researched a lot and done on my own in my space. Somehow we tend to give more time and efforts for these Mega BM dishes, though the regular ones are equally important.

So I was really happy with the way these murukkus all turned out. If you haven’t noticed, this week is all about rice based deep fried dishes, and all of them ended up being murukkus. I loved this addition of Aval or Poha as it lends a crispy texture to the final fried ones.

Aval Murukku is made with the thick Poha and makes a delicious evening snack, while its another popular vada on Spice your Life!
