Hello, Sultan Mediterranean Grill.
Sultan is no stranger to foodies who frequent Salcedo Village and San Juan as this Mediterranean joint has branches in those areas. But it was new to me who hardly visit Makati and San Juan. Its newest branch located in Victoria Plaza along Brixton Street caught my attention when I was looking for a place to have lunch when I dropped by the area to spend time with my family.
We decided to drop by one Friday to try it out and went with Souvlaki Platter (PHP380), Baked Ziti (PHP210) and Seafood Kebab Plate (PHP220). For drinks, we went with Calamansi Juice (PHP55) and Mango Shake (PHP100).
There were two other tables occupied when we got there. Service was fast though as we got our orders in 15 minutes.
My calamansi juice was a bit watered down and it wasn't as tangy as I wanted it to be to soothe my super itchy throat. My sister's Mango Shake was a lot better as it had more flavor yet still refreshing.
First dish served was the Baked Ziti which had a nice tangy taste from the tomato sauce. The lovely blanket of cheese was also great as it added flavor. It was my sister's order so I had to beg for a few more spoonfuls as I really liked it.
I went for the Souvlaki Platter next and we opted to go for beef and chicken kebab for our meats. Unfortunately, both were too dry and tough to be enjoyed.
At least the salad and fries were okay. But it was not worth PHP380. I should have went with shawarma instead.
The seafood kebab plate which comes with squid, cream dory, a few shrimps, mixed veggies and grilled tomato, was a lot better than the Souvlaki Platter.
Though it may not be heavier compared to a meaty plate, it tasted a lot better. The clean and light taste of the seafood went well with the buttered rice and the mixed veggies added texture to the dish.
It was quite weird that the dish that I liked the most was from Italy. I was looking forward to a delectable kebab lunch but it failed me. It will take a while before I head back. But I know where to get good baked ziti when I crave for one.
