A new coffee shop and cafe is on its way to East Boston, and it will be a community and resource center as well.
Eater Boston is reporting (via boston.com) that Kennedy Cafe is planning to open on Meridian Street in Maverick Square, with Zechariah Cook and Ismail Guessous, of Bulfinch Boston Realty being behind the place. Cook, who is president and CEO at Bulfinch, explained the concept to boston.com, saying that "We were looking around the neighborhood, and we came up with a concept of opening a full-service neighborhood coffee shop and cafe....We also wanted to take a look and see what can make this coffee shop different, and how can we bring more community and neighborhood into the coffee shop. Because your typical user of a local coffee shop is someone who lives in the neighborhood." The first floor of the place is slated to be a cafe and community center while the lower floor would be a home resource center where patrons can find local plumbers, electricians, landscapers, etc., while also being an overflow area for the cafe. (Kennedy Cafe will not have a kitchen but expects to partner with a local business and offer salads, panini, smoothies, baked goods, pastries, and coffee.)
If all goes well, Kennedy Cafe could be opening sometime this fall.
The address for the upcoming Kennedy Cafe is 18-20 Meridian Street, East Boston, MA, 02128.
