Last month it was reported that an upscale Cambridge restaurant was going into "hibernation" for an indefinite period of time due to the pandemic. Now we have learned that another restaurant has made a similar move, and this one is located across the river in one of the busiest parts of Boston.
According to a message sent from a rep, Grand Tour, a Parisian-style bistro on Newbury Street that is run by Michael Serpa,went into hibernation on September 30 other than for private chef's tastings and wine pairings for groups of six, with the note hinting that the pandemic also had something to do with this closing as well, saying that "due to the current circumstances the space doesn't lend itself to that intimate experience." We have been told that Select Oyster Bar, a Gloucester Street spot that is also run by Serpa, remains open for business, while a new restaurant from the chef and restaurateur--Atlantico--hopes to open in the next few weeks on Harrison Avenue in the South End.
As reported earlier, Steve "Nookie" Postal put one of his restaurants--Commonwealth in Cambridge's Kendall Square--into hibernation starting September 20 as well, with Postal saying that "We are not in the best of times. Those are gone. So when it gets dark at 4:30 p.m. and it is 30 degrees with 40 mph winds whipping around Kendall and no one is working from their offices until 2021 at the earliest? Yeah, I’m all good with that."
Grand Tour first opened its doors in January of this year.
