Portico Brewing to Open Brewery and Taproom Near Boynton Yards Development in Somerville

A local contract brewer is planning to open its very own brewery and taproom adjacent to a new mixed-use development near the Somerville/Cambridge line.

According to a source, Portico Brewing is opening a facility on South Street in Somerville, which is very close to the now-closed Somerville Brewing Company and next to the upcoming Boynton Yards complex which will include residential, office, life science, commercial, and retail space. A post from Mass. Brew Bros. states that Portico owners Alex Rabe and Alex Zielke plan to include a "pilot brewing system" while also setting up a taproom and a small kitchen, with Rabe saying that "We've always envisioned a physical space as part of the long range plan....Now we're looking forward to providing fresh beer for our local community."

Portico, which currently does contract brewing at Mercury Brewing/Ipswich Ale Brewery in Ipswich, hopes to open its brewery sometime between the end of the year and the spring of 2021.
