First Bite: Yoshimeatsu's Sushi Bake and Tebasaki

Manila's community quarantine gave birth to many home bakers, chefs, and first-time entrepreneurs. Every day, our social media feeds get filled with photos of baked goods, handicrafts, and items for reselling. It felt like a trap as I couldn't help myself from trying a lot. Sushi bake was no exception. Just hearing my friends gush about it makes me drool. And I was happy to be able to try the one from Yoshimeatsu a few weeks back.

Hello, Yoshimeatsu
Yoshimeatsu is one of the popular Korean-Japanese restaurants in Manila. Known for its wide selection of Korean BBQ meats and Japanese staples, it grew to multiple branches in just a short period.

To satisfy our meaty cravings, Yoshimeatsu now offers its meats for takeout! They even sell its sauces, dips, and even samgyupsal charcoal for that legit KBBQ dining experience. And to make things more interesting, Yoshimeatsu launched new items such as Japanese Chicken Wings and Sushi Bake to complement its current offerings.

I sampled its Butter Garlic, Gochujang, Yangnyeom and Creamy Wasabi Tebasaki (wings).
Its bang-for-the-buck prices ranging from PHP119 (3 pieces with rice) to PHP439 (12 pieces, 2 flavors) make Yoshimeatsu's wings a strong contender against other wings shops.
I'm a bit biased with Butter Garlic as I love anything buttery and garlicky. It had that addictive flavor that could trance you to having more. Too much might be cloying so best to have this with other dishes or pair it with different flavored wings.
Yangnyeom is a blend of sweet and spicy flavors. The spice is mild and perfect for those who have low spice tolerance.
Creamy Wasabi was surprisingly good! As a purist, I only enjoy wasabi with soy sauce. But this wings flavor made me change my mind. The creamy sauce balanced the spiciness of wasabi. And in return, this spicy paste gave each bite a refreshing burst of flavor muted the cream's cloying taste.
But my favorite among the four was Gochujang. I love the multidimensional taste profile of gochujang. It has that sweet, spicy, and salty taste that I find great. And I'm happy that I can now enjoy it too with chicken.

I got confused though with Yangnyeom and Gochujang being under Tebasaki as both flavors are very Korean.
Yoshimeatsu's Sushi Bake comes in two flavors--Krazy Kani and Green Minded. You can also order a combination of two if you plan to order a large tray. Small tray (good for 1-2 pax) is priced at PHP299 and comes with one pack of nori while a large order (good for 5-6 pax) is PHP1,299 with five pouches of nori. The combination tray costs PHP1,499 and also comes with five packs of nori. I got a small order of Krazy Kani.
I wasn't expecting much from it as it looks like a giant maki in a tray. But I was surprised that I almost finished it in one sitting! I loved the snappy fish roe and enjoyed the generous serving of shredded kani mixed with spicy mayo dressing. And for PHP299, Yoshimeatsu's version comes out one of the cheapest in the market.
I'll try Green Minded (herb chicken and nori bits in wasabi dressing) next time.
