Morano Gelato Closes Its Locations in Chestnut Hill and Hanover, NH, for Good

A pair of gelato shops whose owner once had plans for national expansion has disappeared from the landscape.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Morano Gelato at The Shops at Chestnut Hill has shut down for good, with a note on the home page of the website for the business indicating that its original location in Hanover, NH, has closed permanently as well. The note from owner Morgan Morano goes on to say the following:

I, like many business owners, am no stranger to obstacles. Business ownership comes with operational challenges on a consistent basis. These new COVID-19 restrictions are another large hurdle and can be overcome through the resilience and tenacity most entrepreneurs possess. That being said, when you limit the number of guests allowed to enter establishments that depend on heavy foot traffic and lines to generate revenue, it's clear that more economic hardships will be endured by many businesses for months to come. Our company depends on long lines in the summer season to carry us through the colder months. We have simply lost this opportunity and there is no recovering.

Morano Gelato's roots in Hanover date back to 2010 via a farmers market before it moved into the back of a cafe then a storefront on Main Street, with the Chestnut Hill outlet debuting in 2015. In 2016, Eater Boston reported that Morgan Morano was planning to franchise nationwide, though that apparently never came to fruition.
