When in Fukuoka: Enjoy Cherry Blossoms at Nishi Park

One of the things I look forward to when visiting Japan is to bask in the beauty of cherry blossoms. Unfortunately, the forecast schedule for the blooms was incorrect and we were there a bit too early. But thanks to Instagram's hashtags and geotags, I was able to discover Nishi Park.

Hello, Nishi Park!
Nishi Park is just one bus ride away from my AirBnB so it was so convenient for me to visit this massive area. The ride though is a bit costly at 230 Yen per way.
I wanted to walk around this park with R but he opted to stay in and rest after days of nonstop walking. Since I was already dressed and determined to see some cherry blossoms, I went on my own.
I read a few reviews saying that this park is not flat and has a lot of uphills. And it's true. It might be a bit difficult for those who are not fit or have injuries to walk around. This might also be the reason why the park's quite empty even on a Sunday.
I spent about 3 hours here and most of the paths I took were deserted. I have to admit, it was a bit scary too.
From the entrance near the bus stop, I turned right and discovered the perfect spot for picnics. Surrounded by Sakura trees, this place would be so beautiful once all the flowers have bloomed.
The trees near the path bloomed earlier than the ones by the grass or picnic ground. Expect some elders and tourists taking quick snapshots here.
I wanted to take some photos too and found out the perfect way to get a selfie...
There are several food stalls further down where you could enjoy Japanese street food like takoyakiThere was also a Japanese monkey show when I was there.
Go past the temple and you'll reach a view deck.
But the best view is by turning left from the entrance as it has a better vantage point.
There are a lot of birds in the area too so be careful of your snacks.
Nishi Park is a bit far from Hakata and Tenjin area (about an hour away by foot) so I made sure to head down by 5 p.m. to catch the bus and be back home before sunset.
Note: Be mindful that the path down near the public pool is a bit sketchy as you'll pass by a strip of illegal settlers or bums. My heart was about to jump out of my chest as I sprint past the area.
Nishi Park is located at 3 Nishikoen, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, 810-0061, Japan.
