Fada ni khichdi is one of those wholesome one pot dish that can be served for breakfast, lunch, or any time of the day. This is made with broken wheat and moong dal with vegetables and makes a complete meal.
I adapted this from Tarla Dalal and really loved it when I had made it for our dinner of the weekdays. While I have used broken wheat as Upma, Sakkara Pongal, this is the first time I was making it as a Khichdi.
Khichdi is same as the Ven Pongal that’s made in South India. We refer Khichdi to the dish made with Semolina and Vegetables, while this version of Khichdi is similar to Ven Pongal. Of course, we do not add vegetables to the general Ven pongal version.
Whatever, it’s now agreed on that we all love Khichdis and it’s the dish to make when we want some simple one pot meal for any meal! This one pot meal is a popular Gujarati Dish.
I went shopping for Dalia and now will have to think of other dishes I could make with the rest that is left out. Some of the other dishes made with Broken Wheat or Sambar Godumai are
Broken Wheat Payasam
Instant Broken Wheat Idli
Broken Wheat Laddoo
Oats Broken Wheat Idlis
Broken Wheat Payasa
Broken Wheat Sweet Porridge
Samba Godumai Sakkarai Pongal
This Khichdi can be served with just pickle and some curds if you want.
