Route 1 Miniature Golf/Dairy Castle Complex in Saugus to Close for Good September 25

The end is drawing near for a Saugus landmark.

According to an article from Wicked Local, Route 1 Miniature Golf--which includes the Dairy Castle ice cream stand. batting cages, and an arcade--has set a closing date of Sunday, September 25, with owner Diana Fay saying that she is working with developers to try to keep the iconic orange dinosaur on the premises. Last month we reported that the town planning board approved of plans to build Essex Landing at the site, with the development slated to include apartments, two hotels, and three restaurants.

Last year, it was announced that Route 1 Miniature Golf was being sold and it would be shutting down at the end of the 2015 season, but it was given a reprieve because the sale hadn't been finalized at the time.

The Route 1 Miniature Golf complex first opened in 1958.
