Cafeteria in Boston's Back Bay May Be Reborn with Similar Concept, New Name

A Back Bay restaurant that closed down last fall may be returning, though it will apparently be rebranded.

According to an article from Universal Hub, George Aboujaoude, who was the owner of Cafeteria on Newbury Street, is planning to reopen the place with a similar concept though with a new name and some additional seating. The Boston Licensing Board listened to the plans yesterday and has agreed to defer taking any action on changing the license of the restaurant (which would need to be done because of the extra seating) until sometime after November 12 when Aboujaoude is slated to talk with the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay about his plans.

Cafeteria shut down late last year after being in business for approximately 13 years; the restaurant was known in part for its comfort food dishes, including fried calamari, burgers, meatloaf, pizza, macaroni and cheese, and hanger steak.

The address for the former Cafeteria space is 279a Newbury Street, Boston, MA, 02115.
