A few months ago, it was reported that the owner of Boston's only Scottish restaurant was planning to take over a nearby space that had been vacated by a restaurant, bar, and music/arts venue. Now we have learned that this will actually be a collaboration between the two.
Universal Hub is reporting (via a Facebook post within the Jamaica Plain group page) that Jason Waddleton of the Haven is joining up with Kathie Mainzer and the Bella Luna/Milky Way team to open a dining spot and events/music venue within the Bella Luna/Milky Way space in the old Haffenreffer Brewery complex on Amory Street. Mainzer gives a bit more information in the Facebook thread, including the following:
With help from the SBA’s Restaurant Revitalization Fund, we will be able to support many small businesses with this venture; from the Haven who muscled through the challenging pandemic and was able to stay open, to the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation who went without rent for a year and a half, to all the local small business vendors that have waited patiently for us to be able to pay our bills. Additionally, we are thankful to the Bella Luna community for stepping up when there was no support in sight and helping fill the gap to pay our staff while we strategized ways to remain in business. By teaming up, we are able to make the small business vendors whole and launch a refreshed concept with priority for jobs given to former Bella Luna staff. The Haven at Perkins Street will remain open and maintain those jobs as well.
The post states that Waddleton will be the General Manager and Operating Partner, while also mentioning that the place is hoping to open in December.
Bella Luna and The Milky Way closed last June after being in the brewery space since 2009; previously, both had been located around the corner from where The Haven currently resides, with The Milky Way including bowling within the space.
The address for the Bella/Luna/Milky Way space is 284 Amory Street while the address for The Haven is 2 Perkins Street.
