Ukiyo Is Apparently Replacing Central in Newton Centre

A restaurant in the western suburbs that focuses on small plates with global influences appears to be going away, and it will be morphing into what could be a sushi spot.

According to a source, Central in Newton Centre is becoming Ukiyo, with this apparently being a rebranding/reconcept that is under the same ownership, and a page within the Culinary Agents site seems to confirm that the new restaurant is on the way, saying that the sushi spot and Asian restaurant will be opening soon in the space. Central, which first opened in 2016 in the former Appetito space, had been temporarily closed since March when the coronavirus outbreak led to a restaurant shutdown where dining spots could only be open for takeout/delivery.

The address for the upcoming Ukiyo (and the now-closed Central) is 761 Beacon Street, Newton, MA, 02459.
