Atlantico to Open in Former Southern Proper Space in Boston's South End

What looks to be a new seafood restaurant is replacing a Southern-style dining spot in the South End of Boston, and it apparently has a big local name behind it.

Based on a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Atlantico is looking to open in the former Southern Proper space on Harrison Avenue, with a source indicating to us that the upcoming spot is planning to focus at least in part on seafood. The hearing notice also confirms something else that our source told us, that Michael Serpa (Select Oyster Bar, Grand Tour) is involved with the new restaurant. (Serpa also used to work at one of Boston's best-known dining spots--Neptune Oyster Bar in the North End.) More should be known about the new eatery by later next week, so stay tuned for updates.

Southern Proper closed on New Year's Eve after being in business for a bit less than two years.

The address for the upcoming Atlantico is 600 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA, 02118.
