A bakery-cafe in Boston's South End that temporarily closed twice several years ago due to new ownership has closed for good, though a new bakery-cafe will be taking over the space.
According to a source, Appleton Cafe on Appleton Street has a sign out front saying that a new spot called Greystone Cafe is opening in its space, with the owners being a "mother-daughter duo." Once the new place opens, it will offer breakfast items, baked goods, salads, snacks, sandwiches, coffee, and more, and grocery products will also be sold. The note says that construction at the site will take place this winter, with the plan being for Greystone to open sometime in the spring of 2020.
Appleton Cafe, which first opened more than 20 years ago, has gone through what appears to be at least a couple of ownership changes over the years, each of which caused the place to briefly close in 2012 and 2013.
The address for Appleton Cafe (and the upcoming Greystone Cafe) in the South End is 123 Appleton Street, Boston, MA, 02116.
