Kollu Urundai or Horse gram Laddu is a healthy and nutritious dish as horse gram is considered a food with medicinal qualities. This ladoo combines the goodness of Horse gram and jaggery and makes a good festival sweet.
While Ulavalu is a common ingredient in our home, we mostly make it as Ulavalu Charu. We make a sundal as well, and recently I made Ulavalu Biryani as well. So when I came with a question of what to make, I had two options, one is to make as poli or bobbatlu and the second one as Ladoo. We can make ladoos with all lentils, beans and whatnot!
When I asked Amma about this, she said she knows about Ulavalu Ladoo, though she has not made it herself. So I decided I will do a ladoo for the last day of Navratri.
Its been a week long celebration with Navratri Pooja. As with each year, I sit down with Hubby Dear and plan our Nine days of Neivedyam. He mostly tells me which ingredient and food needs to be prepared on each day. So based on that I plan to cook something new so that I have a new dish to blog about and at the same time meeting his conditions. I have some very new combinations because of that.
This Navratri Collection of recipes has details of all the Nine Days of Navratri Food, one can prepared, based on what each day signifies.
For Navratri Day 9, Nava Durga is Sidhidatri – Ketu. Kulittha (Horse Gram) represents Ketu. The dishes you can make this day can be Carrot Payasam, Rice Payasam / Rice Kheer. Since I have these dishes already, I decided to make something with jaggery and Horse Gram, which ended up being a ladoo.
This Navratri Pooja was a blessed one with many events and mostly it teaches persiverance and patience. I learn it every year, something new and something more valuable.
Happy Dussehra to all!
