Hello, Cold Layers.
Cold Layers is known as a shaved ice shop. But it offers more than just those fluffy snow-like treats. Aside from it joining the boba craze, it also offers savory dishes perfect for breakfast, lunch, merienda and dinner!
I dropped by its Fisher Mall branch last Wednesday and sampled Chicken Cordon Bleu (PHP285), Boneless Garlic Bangus (PHP240), Creamy Chicken Pesto (PHP285), Fish n' Chips (PHP255) and Koori Chicken Chops (PHP120). I also got to try Cold Layer's newest sweet treats-- Milk Tea Snow Ice, Halo-Halo Snow Ice and Original Brown Sugar Latte.
One of staff who assisted us highly recommended Chicken Cordon Bleu as it is the store's bestselling savory dish. And it was indeed great! The herb-crusted chicken breast was generously stuffed with cheese and ham. You don't even need the gravy for extra flavor as the battered chicken alone was already tasty. An order of this comes with rice and a small portion of greens.
The plate of boneless bangus was delicious as well. I love that Cold Layers serve big portions giving you your money's worth. The fish couldn't even fit the plate!
I liked that the fish was deep-fried giving it that slight crunch. The white meat was well-marinated and had that tinge of tart which was beautifully complemented by garlic bits.
I found the Creamy Chicken Pesto a bit lacking in flavor. The herb-y and nutty flavor I love from pesto was not very pronounced. I did like though that the penne was al dente and the crispy chicken fillet bits added bite to the dish.
Fish n' Chips is a safe dish to order especially when with kids. How can one resist fries?
Koori Chicken Chops is one of Cold Layers' new items inspired by the popular Taiwanese street food. Crunchy and well-seasoned, it's an easy favorite. It is usually served with vinegar but we had it with ketchup instead.
The Original Brown Sugar Latte was a tad too sweet for my liking. The brown sugar also had that Stevia taste to it which took me a while before appreciating it.
The new snow ice flavors are worth checking out too.
Halo-Halo had that light ube and milky taste. The ube and flan on the side was an excellent touch!
Milk Tea snow ice wasn't new to me as I've had something similar from a Taiwanese restaurant. But Cold Layers' version was good. Each spoonful had that tea flavor. Make sure to enjoy this with pearls for that divine chewy bite.
I wasn't able to check the prices of the new snow ice flavors but Cold Layers' icy treats ranges from PHP145 to PHP230.
I'd surely go back for its Chicken Cordon Bleu and maybe try its other snow ice flavors.
