Chilakada Dumpa Halwa is a delicious halwa made with Sweet Potato. While sweet potato is sweet on its own, making it into a halwa gives you a sinful dessert to enjoy!
Sweet Potato is called as Shakarkandi in Hindi, Chilakada dumpa in Telugu, Ranga alur in Bengali and is a root vegetable mostly eaten just boiled. However, there are so many other interesting dishes made with sweet potato.
In Chettinad, they make a spicy dry saute that can be enjoyed as a snack as well. We have the Shakarkandi Chat and some make a savory puttu too. When I came across this halwa, I thought I could do it for my Halwa series.
While we often get this for regular snack, I have only tried some specific dishes with this root vegetable and this is the first time I am trying out a halwa. In my previous Halwa series, I had made Potato halwa which nobody was able to identify.
Whenever I eat this sweet potato, I mostly add sugar to it and eat. So I knew the halwa surely will taste something similar. In fact Hubby dear asked if I was going to just mix sugar to boiled ones and call it halwa.
Since I was making with just one cup, it hardly took more than 10 mins time to get cooked. He liked it and said it surely tastes different and very delicious.
So we have Chilakada Dumpa Halwa for day 6, in this Halwa series that I have been doing for the BM#104 Sweets and Snacks, whereas it was a delicious traditional sweet in Spice your Life!
