Hello, Wok with Mom.
Wok with Mom is a humble home-based party tray business that was started in 2018 by Oi's 77 year old mom. Specializing in authentic Filipino-Chinese dishes like Eight Treasure Chicken, Citrus Baked Pork Spareribs and Potato Shrimp Chinese Salad, Wok with Mom became a popular choice for celebrations and all kinds of festivities.
And to celebrate my mom's birthday, Wok with Mom spoiled us with scrumptious trays of Long Life Cha Misua (PHP980) and Summer Vegetable Lettuce Wrap (PHP980).
We agreed that delivery will be around lunch time but Oi must have figured that we might get hungry earlier and had the food delivered by 10:30 a.m.. (Thank you for being so considerate.)
I was surprised with the massive size of the dishes. I was told that the trays are good for 6 to 8 persons but it could feed up to 12!
While opening the package, I noticed that some of the toppings were still sealed. It turns out the celebrant has to pour all the toppings--shallot, rice wine and peanuts-- and mix it with the rest of the dish then scoop for all the guests.
I'm impressed with the generous serving of shrimps, chicken chunks and mushroom. It is definitely bang for the buck considering the quantity of this dish.
Taste-wise, it was rich (which some might find too salty) and packed with different textures. My favorite were the mushroom bits and peanut! I absolutely love the contrast of textures.
I'm used to munching on duck meat when enjoying Chinese dishes that involve lettuce wrap. But this flavorful dish from Wok with Mom is 90% vegetable. And we're not complaining at all! Oozing with aroma and flavor, you don't even have to look for any sauce to add taste. This was an instant (and easy) favorite!
Overall, Wok with Mom made this late celebration extra special. I'll try its Eight Treasure Chicken next time!
