Kuthravaali Puli Sadam or Barnyard Millet Tamarind Rice is an easy millet dish you can make as neivedyam this Navratri Season.
For the Navratri Day 8, the neivedyam was a Puli Sadam with Barnyard Millet, Whole Moong Dal Sundal and Sakkarai Pongal as it was Tuesday.

Kuthravaali Puli Sadam ~ Day 8
Ingredients Needed:
For the Rice
1/2 cup Barnyard Millet / Kuthravaali
1 cup Water
A Pinch Salt
For the Tamarind Pulp
2 tbsp Tamarind Extract
1 tsp Cooking Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Urad Dal
Handful Peanuts
Handful Cashews
3 to 4 Dry Red Chillies
Salt to taste
Cooking the Millet
Wash and soak the millet for 30 mins.
Bring the water to boil and add the drained millet.
Simmer and cook till done.
Spread on a plate for the rice to separate.
Making the Tamarind Extract
Soak the tamarind and extract the pulp.
Heat a kadai with oil, add all the tempering ingredients.
Then add the tamarind extract and bring to boil.
Add salt and simmer till the extract gets thick like paste.
For making the rice, add the dried rice to the above mix and combine well.
Offer as Neivedyam and partake.
