First Bite: Sisig Society

Sisig has been part of our local cuisine for decades and it has been named as one of the uniquely Filipino dishes. Its crunchy and slight chewy texture topped with egg has always been one of my top choices when in a Filipino restaurant. And when I heard that there's a restaurant that offers DIY sisig, I just have to go.

Hello, Sisig Society
This restaurant is one of our stops for Unang Hirit's DIY restaurants segment.
We were greeted by furniture pieces in red, white and black and a wall mural that you'd normally see in trick eye museums.
As part of the feature, we decided to create our own Sisig (PHP169, solo | PHP299, sharing) and chose the ingredients we want in our sizzling plate of goodness.
For the first one, we opted to go with crunchy pork with bacon and cheese. The second plate was a combination of spicy pork, mushrooms and onions.
I've never had bacon and cheese sisig so I was very excited to try it. And it did not disappoint at all. Each bite was packed with flavors from the pork, cheese and bacon. It was so addicting that I had to exert a lot of effort from finishing it in a couple of minutes.
The spicy pork was surprisingly not that spicy. I was scared at first that it might be too hot and that I gag during the shoot. But it was manageable. But if you prefer it to be spicier, I think you can ask the staff for some chili.
We also tried the Crispy Kare-Kare (PHP299) which was spectacular! The sauce was thick and peanuty and it went beautifully well with the crunchy bacon bagnet. R loved it so much that she kept raving about it.
I was able to try the Tusok-Tusok Platter A (PHP259) too. An order comes with beef franks, chicken crisps, fish balls and kikiam. It's a great dish to order when with friends.
Sisig Society also offers this at PHP495 and it comes with 7 bottles of beer. [Note: I'd avoid the chicken crisps though as it was just flour and overly oily.]

Overall, it was a great dining experience. All dishes have reasonable prices and the ones I've tried were scrumptious! I'll definitely be back for more!

Sisig Society is located at Eastwood City Walk 1, Libis, Quezon City. They also have branches in SM North Edsa and Fort Strip, BGC.
