A longtime Italian restaurant in North End of Boston that shut down for renovations a couple of months ago is open again, and it now has a new menu along with new ownership.
According to a press release, Assaggio on Prince Street reopens today, with Frank DePasquale and DePasquale Ventures taking it over and changing the concept to focus on dishes found in Positano and along Italy's Amalfi Coast. A few items being offered at the revamped eatery include zucchini flowers, grilled octopus, veal chop, and broccoli rabe and sausage, and an earlier Facebook post from DePasquale indicated that the menu may also include some old favorites from the original Assaggio as well. (The restaurant will also offer beer, wine, and cocktails.) It looks like the space--which was completely renovated--will have dining on the first floor and in the basement like before, while the second floor will be home to a cooking school at some point in time.
In addition to Assaggio, DePasquale Ventures also operates such North End spots as Bricco, Mare Oyster Bar, Trattoria Il Panino, Bricco Panetteria, Bricco Salumeria and Pasta Shoppe, Quattro, Gigi Gelateria, Scene, and Aqua Pazza.
The original Assaggio, which opened more than 20 years ago, was known in part for its classic Italian-American dishes.
The address for Assaggio is 29 Prince Street, Boston, MA, 02113.
