Last December we announced that a local group of Italian food retailers and caterers was looking to take over a suburban pizzeria, only to have the plans fall through several weeks later. Now we have learned that the plans are back on once again.
According to a source, Comella's has purchased the Pizza Express space in Winchester, and there is currently brown paper on the windows of the Main Street storefront. Late last year, it appeared that Comella's had gotten approval from the town for a beer and wine license, with the plan being to open in the Pizza Express space at some point in time, but sometime in late January or early February, the group of eateries backed out of the deal and Pizza Express remained open for business.
It is not yet known if Comella's will be able to get a liquor license this time around; as soon as we find out, we will post an update here.
Comella's has a number of locations in the Greater Boston area, including in Bedford, Belmont, Chestnut Hill, Concord, Hingham, Marblehead, Melrose, Natick, Needham, Wellesley, West Newton, West Roxbury, and Westwood.
The address for the upcoming location of Comella's (and the now-closed Pizza Express) is: 529 Main Street, Winchester, MA, 01890.
