ALBANIA - Appetizer Platter or MEZE Platter

The three largest communities (New York, Michigan and Massachusetts) account for 58% of the total Albanian-American population.

As of the 2010 census there were 201,000+ Albanians living in the US.

About the food:

Albanian food is Mediterranean, influenced by many including Greek, Italian and Turkish cooking.

A typical meze platter can be prosciutto ham, salami and brined cheese, accompanied with roasted bell peppers (capsicum) and/or green olives marinated in olive oil with garlic or onions but there are many, many more to add.

Generic Albanian Meze Platter

·        Wheat Bread (Bukë gruri) or corn bread (Bukë misri) are ever-present on the Albanian table. Hence the expression for "going to eat a meal" (Albanian:  për të ngrënë bukë) can be literally translated as "going to eat bread." 'Bread' is also used in the authentic Albanian hospitality saying of "bread, salt, and heart" (Alb.: bukë, kripë e zemër).

· Dolma (Japrak)
