Nothing brings together people like food does. With this in mind, Better Butter was launched in August 2015, as a platform where people can share, showcase and search all kinds of recipes.
Sukhmani Bedi and Niyaz Laiq, the people behind Better Butter, wanted to create a recipe sharing destination, with an India focus, something along the lines of Yummly and Epicurious. "People get recipes from a variety of sources, and there is no single platform in India that houses all kinds of recipes that people may be looking for," says Sukhmani.
The recipe-sharing platform allows users to discover recipes trending in the community while also sharing their own recipes. Old, new or family heirlooms, this aims to be one-stop shop for all kinds of recipes.
The website encourages food bloggers, non-bloggers and chefs to come forth and share their recipes, which can then be discovered by the food loving people visiting the platform. "It's been under a month, since we launched, and the response from the food community in India has been encouraging," says Sukhmani.
While a lot of start ups in the food space are focusing on home delivering food from restaurants, reserving a table at restaurants, delivering pre-cooked meals and so on, there was nothing in the space of putting the spotlight on home cooking and Better Butter wanted to do just that. Pride in cooking, creating new dishes, sharing them with a food loving audience and get the conversation going around home cooked meals is the central idea of this platform.
Here are some of the unique features of Better Butter-
- One can search for a recipe around cuisines, meal course, diet, ingredient and even users.
- Bloggers and food lovers can submit recipes for their contest. The current contest on is Traditional Breakfasts of India, and you can have your chance at winning specially curated prizes. I'm sending across a very traditional Upma Kozhakattai, which is a fitting traditional tiffin item in Tambrahm cuisine, and not exactly a breakfast though :) There's a new contest announced every fortnight, so there's your chance to share your best recipes and win!
- There is also a chef section where each week they have a featured chef sharing his / her recipes, like they have Chef Saby of Lavaash currently sharing his recipes. Check out his foodbook here.
- Users can create a foodbook of 4 recipes, going with any theme they have in mind, such as family heirlooms or Festival specials and so on.
- Better Butter also has a feature called 'Collections' which is a quick recipe search based on specific festivals, kid favourite recipes, cakes and so on. So if you are looking for Janmasthami recipes, for example, you can find them all in one page.
