It looks like the Boston area will be losing another iconic music venue.
According to an article in The Boston Globe, Johnny D's Uptown Restaurant and Music Club in Somerville's Davis Square is planning to close, with owner Carla DeLellis looking to shut the Holland Street spot down in either late January or early February of 2016. The post says that the decision to close the club is mostly a personal decision rather than a business decision, with DeLellis planning to convert the space into a multi-story mixed-use development that would include commercial space on the ground floor and residential space on three floors above.
Johnny D's first opened its doors in 1969, with the place initially being a bar then a country music spot before becoming a popular restaurant and music club that featured a wide variety of local and national acts.
The news of Johnny D's upcoming closure follows the news of another landmark club--T.T. the Bear's Place in Cambridge--shutting down later this month.
The address for Johnny D's is 17 Holland Street, Somerville, MA, 02144. Its website can be found at http://johnnyds.com/
