As a kid, I must have flown all of two or three times. Those were the days when there were only full service airlines. It used to be way too exciting going through the check in and security check formalities. Getting into the plane and waiting for the hot towels, toffees and cotton plugs for the ears to come by in dainty wicker baskets... those things have completely vanished from today's domestic flying experiences, haven't they? And the food would be served in ceramic trays, silverware and cloth towels. There would be so much excitement to open the foil covering the trays and peek into the mini portions of food.
The wow factor of eating a meal 35000 feet in the sky was quite unparalleled as a kid. The innocence of enjoying the moment, without being overly critical of things, wonderful days right? I have seen the same thrill my kid experiences on flights, even though he's flown way too many times in his six years :D
Snapping back from down memory lane to the present, what I'm going to share with you today is positively exciting, if you love cooking. Well known airlines Lufthana is running this contest called #CookAndFly. All you need to do is get on to their Facebook app and take part in this contest.
You can submit your ace recipe, which you think will be a great fit in the Lufthansa's inflight menu.
Each week, there will be one winner in the Chef's Pick of the Week category, the prize which will be a Morphy Richards blender. Weekly winners will be picked by Chef Kunal Kapur, Executive Sous Chef, The Leela Ambience Gurgaon Hotel & Residences. These winners will also be in the running for the Grand Prize.
I'm sure you want to know what the Grand Prize is. Apart from your recipe featuring among the signature recipes on Lufthansa's inflight menu, you will also win a Lufthansa Business Class ticket to Europe (woohoo!) and a 6-week internship with celebrity chefs at The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts (now, I'd kill for this!)
Contest closing date is July 31st, 2015, so make sure you send in your recipes soon!
So it's all quite simple. Log in to the app on Facebook, submit the recipe you are most proud of, and who knows you might be the one headed to Europe in Business Class and the 6 week internship with top chefs, that might change your life!
